Notes from info file:
Here's something new from the 1980 Springsteen tour. According to the notes from the original poster:
"Just wait 'til you see it - the quality is awesome (for 1980) and it will blow you away. Apparently the filmer never made any copies from his master, the tapes circulating were probably originally filmed from a screen."
The show is shot from the right side of the screen. Very steady camera work, with an occasional jiggle or head passing by quickly.
Keep in mind this material is from what looks like a Super 8mm sound source. That means that the sound is good, but not great, and that there aren't any segments longer than the around 3 minute capacity of a Super 8 cartridge. Consequently, there are cuts at the start of Born To Run, 10th Avenue Freezeout, Badlands and Rosalita, and cuts at the end of Independence Day, The Promised Land, Badlands and Rosalita. Oh, and some cuts in the middle of Independence Day, and one in Rosie.
But the show is great! Both Bruce and the crowd are on fire. Well worth the download, if you ask me.
Burned and viewed from original download. Ripped with DVD Decrypter. Cover art included.
Many thanks to Pete from ABMS for sharing this gem.
Notes from BruceDVDs:
This long-lost 'River' footage surfaced recently as a high generation copy of a VHS video that had been shot from a projection of the Super 8 cine film onto a wall. The quality of that version was poor, but its release was successful in prompting the filmer to dig out the original reel. We now have a new transfer using the master as the source.
The improvement is astounding. Gone is the colour bleeding that marred the first release. The image is now clean and sharp with more balanced and natural colours. We are still talking about film shot with primitive technology compared to today's standards, but this is as good as anyone could reasonably hope to expect.
The steady footage is shot from the left side of the arena and consists of a series of incomplete clip from throughout the show. The audio is nice and clear.
The rarity value, coupled with the surprisingly good quality, make this a definite 'must have' for any serious Springsteen collector.
