JEMS' first ever Springsteen master and tape No. 1 of what now numbers 100 or so Bruce masters from 1975 to the present. S had technical/equipment issues, which is why we missed the first hour of the show. We join the set during Backstreets and get the last 80 or so minutes of a raucous show in front of a sellout crowd that walked away converted, S included.

What's also lost to history is why S taped this on the lesser Sony TC-55 cassette recorder and not his favored Tandberg reel to reel. The result is a good and listenable but not great recording. However, this is one of the JEMS Springsteen recordings that we have never posted from the master tape, so it should be an upgrade for all. Samples provided.

The show comes on the heels of the band's much heralded run at the Roxy in LA and the performances feel kindred. Chuck Berry's "Carol" makes an infrequent appearance in the encore and its inclusion along with that of "Twist and Shout" after "Quarter to Three" tells you Bruce was feeling the love from the audience.

I'd like to dedicate this torrent to S himself, who is going through some serious medical issues at the moment. He introduced me to this hobby 30 years ago, and I learned everything I know about taping from him. His remarkable dedication to recording shows in and around the Seattle area for the last 40 years makes him a first-ballot hall of famer if there ever is a Tapers Hall of Fame. Love you, Stan.
