I'm finally able to share a substantial material upgrade with the discovery of a low gen source out the DS Archives. I've been going through the Born In The USA tapes from Dan's archives and to my surprise this one was buried amongst them. The circulating version has multiple issues, some of those issues, missing songs and cuts could not be corrected and appear in this low gen source as well. In addition, the first four songs of the show has bleed through from another show. I've often wondered if a lower gen was discovered would that bleed through also be present and the bad news is yes it is. So either the taper recorded the show on a tape that already contained music or early on in the transfer process a trader re-used a tape for the transfer. The good news is with modern software I was able to completely remove the bleed through without damaging the actual show. The notes for the currently circulating version also mentions a slight edit at the end of "Racing In The Street". There is no edit in this source and "Racing In The Street" is complete with no issues. Based on the audience, this was captured from the floor as the audience around the taper is not happy that other concert goers further back filled the aisles up front, this also elicits comments from Bruce. After "The Ties That Bind" things really heat up with multiple attendees hurling expletives at the aisle crashers. This in turns gets a response from who I assume are the taper or the taper's friends saying "nice audience noise". Though I was able to remove probably 75+ screams and yells this portion could not removed without a serious edit and losing some of Bruce's dialogue, it's actually one of those snapshot moments of what goes on at a show. Thanks to Dan for allowing his wonderful archives to be shared with the greater collector's community, it's given us some wonderful upgrades and interesting alternate sources with more to come.
