I also have a duplicate but slightly flawed copy of the first tape but only needed to work with the one copy. Playback via Yamaha KX480 tape deck with dolby on but play trim set positive. This results in less hiss and I am comfortable with the result. Recorded using Audacity, exported as flac files and tracks split using CD Wave. Files tested and checked for errors and SBEs using TLH. I had an error show up on Follow That Dream but believe I have fixed it ok. In case anybody is wondering play trim was an option with some NAD and Yamaha decks! "The Play Trim circuit is a narrow-band equaliser that operates in the top two octaves of the audio spectrum, providing an adjustable boost or cut of up to ±3 dB at 10 kHz and 6 dB at 20 kHz. The key to its success is its location in the signal path, ahead of the Dolby NR decoder. Since any high-frequency errors are corrected before Dolby NR decoding, playback fidelity can be as excellent in everyday use as it is in idealised lab tests". The only version of this show that I have seen in the collecting community is the Doberman version which I have from an upload to ABMS a few years ago. This version has some small but obvious advantages over the Doberman version. The intro to the Ties That Bind is still cut slightly but not as severely and You Can Look (But You Better Not Touch) is complete and does not fade in. There is also some of the tune up before the River and much more of the crowd applause in the latter stages. There are a couple of disadvantages in that the end of Rosalita is cut and there was also a very small cut for the tape transition from Hungry Heart to Jole Blon but little lost. I have tried to rectify the ehd of Rosalita by a graft from the Doberman version but the result is very obvious at 12:47 and beyond my current ability to do a cleaner job. The original full snippet of Rosalita prior to my editing is included in case anyone feels up to trying a tidier version. There is some minor pitch instability on some tracks for example with the River but overall the quality and fidelity is pretty good and in my opinion compares very well with the Doberman version and personally I prefer this version. Some tracks do seem to run at different speeds compared with the Doberman version as I found out when trying to work on Rosalita which runs slower. Crowd noise is fairly well contained on this version and so does not intefere very much with the music. This also means a closer inspection is needed to verify that this is an alternative version but there are loads of examples of crowd noise on one but not the other. I would suggest the intro to Jungleland as the best location to verify this where someone loudly and repeatedly demands Born To Run and is very audible on this version but is not heard on the Doberman version. There is also the rare virtuoso 90 seconds performance of the Birmingham More Man with chorus. This terrifying rendition gets ever more insistant at every verse until its triumphant finale. The Doberman version only captures the chorus and that is cut! The microphone really picks up the intensity of his performance but if by any chance he was the taper then I forgive him for the headache.
