So the story goes Tape Man Joe attended many concerts. Joe used a Sony D6 with either Sony 929 or 939 microphones (memories have faded on which exact mic) and TDK metal tapes. Joe made a few copies and gave them to friends but never actively traded his recordings. Recently Joe lent a few of his masters to his friend, Jungleland user G (a generous collector himself who has lent tapes from his collection to help upgrade many shows). G asked me to finish off the transfers and post them. This stretch of the BITUSA tour is most often regarded as the best of the tour. Philadelphia usually gets some of the best performances of any tour. The last two Spectrum shows have long circulated from the incredible Mark Persic masters. Joe does a terrific job of capturing a fine alternate to Mark's master. The sound is excellent throughout. There are a few screams and some clapping especially at the beginning of the show, but nothing that should take away from one's enjoyment of this recording. Their tap flips are almost mirror images of each other. Joe cuts it a second quicker than Mark and captures an extra half second at the beginning of Glory Days. There are two short flaws on the tape that I patched with Persic's master. They are listed below. To my knowledge, these are the only two recordings to exist of this show. Thanks to Tape Man Joe for recording and sharing his tapes and G for transferring the files. 01.BORN IN THE U.S.A. 02.OUT IN THE STREET 03.TENTH AVENUE FREEZE-OUT 04.ATLANTIC CITY 05.JOHNNY 99 06.INDEPENDENCE DAY 07.PROVE IT ALL NIGHT 08.DARLINGTON COUNTY 09.GLORY DAYS 10.THE PROMISED LAND 11.MY HOMETOWN 12.TRAPPED 13.BADLANDS 14.THUNDER ROAD 15.HUNGRY HEART 16.DANCING IN THE DARK 17.CADILLAC RANCH 18.CANDY'S ROOM 19.DOWNBOUND TRAIN 20.COVER ME 21.PINK CADILLAC 22.BOBBY JEAN 23.JERSEY GIRL 24.ROSALITA (COME OUT TONIGHT) 25.I'M A ROCKER 26.JUNGLELAND 27.BORN TO RUN 28.DETROIT MEDLEY - TRAVELIN' BAND 29.TWIST AND SHOUT - DO YOU LOVE ME Known faults: Small tape imperfection during the spoken intro to Born To Run. Patched with 6 seconds of Mark Persic's Master. Small tape imperfection during Jungleland. Patched with 8 seconds of Mark Persic's Master. From Brucbase: A rare full band take of “Independence Day”. Recently available from Mark Persic's master recording - all Philly '84 shows were special and Bruce and the band put out their best. Amazing sound quality. Roy plays a snippet of "Out Of Limits" during the introduction to "Glory Days". "The Promised Land" is dedicated to Bruce's friends from Ireland that are in the audience. "Cover Me" has a bit longer keyboard intro than usual. Nils does the trampoline jump twice during "Rosalita (Come Out Tonight)" after failing the first try. Bruce sings a couple lines of Chubby Checker's "Let's Twist Again" as an introduction to "I'm A Rocker". Interesting soundcheck features the only circulating recording of outtake "Beneath The Floodline". Also known by the title "Beneath The Boulevard", it has never been performed in concert. Audience tape of both show and soundcheck. Available on CDR 'Perfection At Last!' and 'For Tramps Like Us' (both Ev2).
