So the story goes, Tape Man Joe attended many concerts. Joe used a Sony D6 with either a Sony 929 or 939 microphone (memories have faded on which exact mic) and TDK metal tapes. Joe made a few copies and gave them to friends but never actively traded his recordings. Recently Joe lent a few of his masters to his friend, Jungleland user G (a generous collector himself who has lent tapes from his collection to help upgrade many shows). G asked me to finish off the transfers and post them. This is one of the most well known Born in the U.S.A. shows, with eight tracks used on Live 75-85. There is no real reason go over the performance. The star here is the recording. If you have heard Tape Man Joe's recordings from the first two shows of the stand, this is every bit as good and probably better than those recordings. Joe was close to the stage all four nights. He locks in quickly stays in line throughout. There isn't much in the way of audience interference. There are a couple of quick tape flips at the end of a few tracks (The River, The Promised Land and Cadillac Ranch). I decided to cross fade them and attempt to smooth them out, instead of patching three to five seconds of applause. No music is lost and it sounds less jarring than switching back and forth between sources. Let's call Mark Persic's master recorder one. The version released by damien being recorder two. This would be recorder three. This cannot be uploaded to Dime-a-Dozen without it being butchered to hell. Please do not do that. Thanks to Tape Man Joe for recording and sharing his tapes and G for transferring the files. 01.BORN IN THE U.S.A. 02.BADLANDS 03.DARLINGTON COUNTY 04.JOHNNY 99 05.SEEDS 06.DARKNESS ON THE EDGE OF TOWN 07.THE RIVER 08.WAR 09.WORKING ON THE HIGHWAY 10.TRAPPED 11.OUT IN THE STREET 12.I'M GOIN' DOWN 13.GLORY DAYS 14.THE PROMISED LAND 15.MY HOMETOWN 16.THUNDER ROAD 17.COVER ME 18.DANCING IN THE DARK 19.HUNGRY HEART 20.CADILLAC RANCH 21.NO SURRENDER 22.I'M ON FIRE 23.PINK CADILLAC 24.BOBBY JEAN 25.THIS LAND IS YOUR LAND 26.BORN TO RUN 27.RAMROD 28.TWIST AND SHOUT - LA BAMBA - DO YOU LOVE ME 29.STAND ON IT 30.TRAVELIN' BAND 31.ROCKIN' ALL OVER THE WORLD Known faults: Quick tape flips at the end "The River", "The Promised Land" and "Cadillac Ranch". No music lost. From Brucbase: "Cadillac Ranch" includes the "Land Of A 1000 Dances" chant in the introduction. One of the main source concerts for the official Live/1975-85 box set, which included a total of eight recordings (“Born In The U.S.A.”, “Darlington County”, “Seeds”, “The River”, “War” (with overdubbed Nils Lofgren guitar solo), “The Promised Land”, “My Hometown” and “Cover Me”) from this show. In addition, “My Hometown” and “War” were later released as video clips, and also included on the Video Anthology VHS/DVD. Audience tape. Two recording sources circulate, the first is available from Mark Persic's master recording, which is also used for remaster 'The Promised Night' (Ev2). A second source (damien) was released as 'Blind Faith (Erno). EV2's 'The Promised Night' uses "Born In The U.S.A." from the 'damien' source due to over recording on the Persic source as well as patches to four songs. Persic's audience recording suffers from occasional loud crowd interference but is still an upgrade over any previous recording of this great show. Several pro-shot clips from this show also circulate apart from the official videos - "Born In The U.S.A.", "Darkness On The Edge Of Town", "Seeds", "The Promised Land", "Cadillac Ranch", "Thunder Road", "This Land Is Your Land" and "No Surrender". Most are sourced from the 1986 BBC documentary Glory Days. The complete "This Land Is Your Land" (including spoken introduction) was broadcast on ABC's 20/20.
