So the story goes, Tape Man Joe attended many concerts. Joe used a Sony D6 with either a Sony 929 or 939 microphone (memories have faded on which exact mic) and TDK metal tapes. Joe made a few copies and gave them to friends but never actively traded his recordings. Recently Joe lent a few of his masters to his friend, Jungleland user G (a generous collector himself who has lent tapes from his collection to help upgrade many shows). G asked me to finish off the transfers and post them. Out of the first thirteen titles in this series, this is only the third that was in general circulation. In fact it's the only recording of this show to my knowledge. The first night in Hampton is well represented by ML's sick recording that came into circulation four years ago. This recording was previously best represented from the transfer of the G tape done by IvanF. That was most likely done with second-generation tapes. It shouldn't surprise anyone who collects, but there is a huge difference between the master recording and second gen tapes. There are two known faults on this recording. There are tape flips between Danny's and Bruce's solos in Prove It All Night and in the fading music of Growin' Up and the start of Bobby Jean. Combined there is no more than ten seconds of music lost. With no known second recorder at this time, no patch was available. The performance itself is excellent. Bruce must have been feeling the spirit on this particular evening. Maybe being in being in his pre E Street Band stomping grounds of Virginia inspired him. Thanks to Tape Man Joe for recording and sharing his tapes and G for transferring the files. 01.BORN IN THE U.S.A. 02.OUT IN THE STREET 03.DARLINGTON COUNTY 04.JOHNNY 99 05.DARKNESS ON THE EDGE OF TOWN 06.REASON TO BELIEVE 07.HIGHWAY PATROLMAN 08.JOHNNY BYE-BYE 09.PROVE IT ALL NIGHT 10.GLORY DAYS 11.THE PROMISED LAND 12.MY HOMETOWN 13.BADLANDS 14.THUNDER ROAD 15.COVER ME 16.DANCING IN THE DARK 17.HUNGRY HEART 18.CADILLAC RANCH 19.BECAUSE THE NIGHT 20.I'M ON FIRE 21.GROWIN' UP 22.BOBBY JEAN 23.RACING IN THE STREET 24.BORN TO RUN 25.DETROIT MEDLEY - TRAVELIN' BAND 26.TWIST AND SHOUT - DO YOU LOVE ME 27.SANTA CLAUS IS COMIN' TO TOWN Known faults: Tape flip during Prove It All Night Tape Flip at the end of Growin Up From Brucbase: Five changes for the second show in Hampton, with "Out In The Street", "Darkness On The Edge Of Town", "Highway Patrolman", "Because The Night" and "Growin' Up" replacing "Prove It All Night", "Atlantic City", "Mansion On The Hill", "Downbound Train" and "Pink Cadillac" respectively.
