So the story goes, Tape Man Joe attended many concerts. Joe used a Sony D6 with either a Sony 929 or 939 microphone (memories have faded on which exact mic) and TDK metal tapes. Joe made a few copies and gave them to friends but never actively traded his recordings. Recently Joe lent a few of his masters to his friend, Jungleland user G (a generous collector himself who has lent tapes from his collection to help upgrade many shows). G asked me to finish off the transfers and post them. Joe's taping skills are on full display here. This show lasts over three and a half hours, including a staggering 16 song first set. Yet he only misses a few seconds between Prove It All Night and Darlington County and the very start of Backstreets. While this isn't his best tape, it is a remarkably consistent document of this epically long show. It doesn't sound like Joe was perfectly in line with the speakers on this particular night, but don't let that detour you. It’s still an excellent recording. I did my best to pull the recording up front as much as possible. The recording has a slight echo. There are talkers and clappers around Joe also. The show has quite a distinctive set list highlighted by a great five pack of Nebraska material and a playful, yet intense Backsteets. I'm sorry if I'm a sucker for the intro to the version of Point Blank on this tour, but I could listen to it all day long. It also features other BITUSA tour rarities such as Who'll Stop the Rain and Street Fighting Man. To my knowledge, I don't believe this ever circulated before. Let's call Mark Persic's master Recording One and Joe's Recording Two. Thanks to Tape Man Joe for recording and sharing his tapes and G for transferring the files. 01.BORN IN THE U.S.A. 02.WHO'LL STOP THE RAIN 03.OUT IN THE STREET 04.ATLANTIC CITY 05.JOHNNY 99 06.REASON TO BELIEVE 07.MANSION ON THE HILL 08.STATE TROOPER 09.PROVE IT ALL NIGHT 10.DARLINGTON COUNTY 11.GLORY DAYS 12.THE PROMISED LAND 13.MY HOMETOWN 14.POINT BLANK 15.BADLANDS 16.THUNDER ROAD 17.COVER ME 18.DANCING IN THE DARK 19.HUNGRY HEART 20.CADILLAC RANCH 21.DOWNBOUND TRAIN 22.I'M ON FIRE 23.PINK CADILLAC 24.BOBBY JEAN 25.BACKSTREETS 26.ROSALITA (COME OUT TONIGHT) 27.I'M A ROCKER 28.STREET FIGHTING MAN 29.JUNGLELAND 30.FOLLOW THAT DREAM 31.BORN TO RUN 32.DETROIT MEDLEY - TRAVELIN' BAND 33.TWIST AND SHOUT - DO YOU LOVE ME Known faults: Tape flip between Prove It All Night and Darlington County.
