So the story goes, Tape Man Joe attended many concerts. Joe used a Sony D6 with either a Sony 929 or 939 microphone (memories have faded on which exact mic) and TDK metal tapes. Joe made a few copies and gave them to friends but never actively traded his recordings. Recently Joe lent a few of his masters to his friend, Jungleland user G (a generous collector himself who has lent tapes from his collection to help upgrade many shows). G asked me to finish off the transfers and post them. Bruce and the band returned to the road to finish off the first leg of the Born In The U.S.A tour, after a couple of weeks off to celebrate the holidays. Nothing much changed set list wise since December and the band didn't really seem to lose much of a step over the break. Even though multiple singles had already been released, I doubt even Bruce could have seen how big of a year 1985 would be for him at its inception. Joe's recording now gives us three separate tapes if this show. Joe's taping spot seems to capture a lot of reverb. The low and mid ranges also sounded over captured, requiring some extra mixing to try and even things out. This show was upgraded back in 2015 from the master tapes of ML via the JEMS team. It is the definitive tape from this month of tour to my ears. The show was made complete by patching Santa Claus is coming to Town from a second, less than stellar tape (the only other one available at that time). Included in this set are bonus tracks. I patched Joe's recording with ML's to give a better ending to that tape. Thanks to Tape Man Joe for recording and sharing his tapes and G for transferring the files. 01.BORN IN THE U.S.A. 02.PROVE IT ALL NIGHT 03.DARLINGTON COUNTY 04.JOHNNY 99 05.ATLANTIC CITY 06.REASON TO BELIEVE 07.MANSION ON THE HILL 08.JOHNNY BYE-BYE 09.OUT IN THE STREET 10.GLORY DAYS 11.THE PROMISED LAND 12.MY HOMETOWN 13.BADLANDS 14.THUNDER ROAD 15.COVER ME 16.DANCING IN THE DARK 17.HUNGRY HEART 18.CADILLAC RANCH 19.DOWNBOUND TRAIN 20.I'M ON FIRE 21.PINK CADILLAC 22.BOBBY JEAN 23.RACING IN THE STREET 24.BORN TO RUN 25.DETROIT MEDLEY - TRAVELIN' BAND 26.TWIST AND SHOUT - DO YOU LOVE ME 27.SANTA CLAUS IS COMIN' TO TOWN Known faults: None From Brucbase: Bruce and the band return to the stage after the Christmas and New Year break. Two recording sources are known to exist, released on CDR 'First Evening At The Hampton Coliseum' (missing "Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town"). The same source was recently put into circulation directly from ML's master tapes via JEMS and is a huge upgrade but still misses "Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town". A second complete source of poor to fair quality is in limited circulation and includes "Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town".
