In January of 1985 the East Coast of the United States experienced a record-breaking cold front. Temperatures across North Carolina fell to levels never seen: the lowest was -34° F at Mount Mitchell. But in the Coliseum in Greensboro, Bruce and the E Street Band managed to provide all the heat the audience needed. I was able to fly down Friday afternoon before the weather got really bad, and survive driving back and forth from my hotel to the shows on icy roads. Fortunately, the tapes survived as well. I remember above all is the bitter cold, the icy roads, and the ice frozen on the tree limbs I could see outside my hotel room window. Couldn’t go anywhere or do anything, as the state was essentially shut down.
