Live 24 Apr 1970 version
Well I'm going back home to Georgia
To spend my last few years
Away from the sadness and the tears
I been out to San Francisco
Travelled on down to L.A.
There still ain't but one place I can stay, yeah yeah
With my last few dollars
And I'm gonna bring my last few dimes
Going back to Georgia
And we're going back one more time
We're going back one more time, whoa!
Oh I been up to New York City
And the Chicago Loop
Still ain't but one place I've been to
When I sailed down the Mississippi
And I gambled some in New Orleans
Still there's no finer site I ever seen
With my last few dollars
And I'm gonna bring my last few dimes
Going back to Georgia
And we're going back one more time
We're going back one more time, yeah!
Well I'm going back home to Georgia
To spend my last few years
Away from the sadness and all the tears, whoa yeah
Well I'm going back home to Georgia
Gonna get myself, ??? myself home to Georgia
Oh, gonna, gonna get on back, get on back to Georgia
Get on back, gonna get home to Georgia
With my last few dollars
And I'm gonna bring my last few dimes, yes I am
Going back to Georgia
And we're going back one more time
And we're going back one more time
And we're going back one more time
We're going back one more time
The above lyrics are for the live 24 Apr 1970 performance of GOIN' BACK TO GEORGIA at Monmouth College in West Long Branch, NJ, with Steel Mill.
This was a single show, with Steel Mill the sole act on the bill. According to Brucebase, this was a replacement concert for a cancellation of the musical "Hair".
A soundboard recording of very good to excellent quality is in circulation. The tape is very deceptive in that drummer Vini Lopez's voice microphone is abnormally dominant in the mix, so much so that it sounds like a co-lead singer (i.e., Robbin Thompson) is interacting with Springsteen throughout the show. However under an extremely close comparison it can be determined that the "co-lead" vocalist is actually drummer and background vocalist Lopez, with his microphone turned way up in the audio mix. Robbin Thompson's voice is definitely not present.
Some of the above info about the live performance is taken from Brucebase.
