TARANTELLA NAPOLETANA

Original traditional version

[Instrumental]

Info

TARANTELLA NAPOLETANA is a traditional Italian tarantella (a kind of dance) associated with the Italian city of Naples. It is familiar to North American viewers from commercials and other content as a stereotypically "Italian" musical riff or melody; see for example its use in the 1972 film The Godfather.

Bruce Springsteen's Version

Bruce Springsteen has featured TARANTELLA NAPOLETANA in his live shows at least twice. The first time was on 11 Jun 1999 in Genoa, Italy, during The Reunion Tour, when Danny Federici, Roy Bittan, and Nils Lofgren played it together on accordion during TENTH AVENUE FREEZE-OUT. The second time was on 23 Jul 2009 in Udine, Italy, during the Working On A Dream Tour, when Charles Giordano, Roy Bittan, and Nils Lofgren played it together on accordion to open the show.
