Band rehearsal #2
One, two, three, four
[Indistinct chatter]
Two, three, four
Ah one, two, three, four!
[Indistinct chatter]
One, two, three, four
Ah one, two, three, four!
You've been hurt, you're all cried out you say
You're just pushing everybody out of your way
You pack your bags and all alone you ride
You don't need nothing, don't need no one by your side
You're walking tough, baby, but you're walking blind
To the ties that bind
No man can break the ties that bind
No man can forsake the ties that bind
Outside, inside, anyway you wanna go
There's one thing little darling that I know
People wondering just who's gonna stop the rain
Who ends the sadness, who's gonna quiet the pain
You walk the walk, but will you stand and walk the line
And face the ties that bind
The ties that bind
No man can break the ties that bind
???
???
???
??? truth that I want you say
I wanna hear you baby
Oh the ties that bind
To the ties that bind
No man can break the ties that bind
No man can forsake the ties that bind
You just can't shake the ties that bind
Come on! Go!
The above lyrics are for a band rehearsal workout of THE TIES THAT BIND believed to have been recorded during a break in midst of the Darkness On The Edge Of Town Tour, on 26 Oct 1978 at Springsteen's Telegraph Hill Road property in Holmdel, NJ, nicknamed "Telegraph Hill Studios". This wasn't a true studio; it was a converted barn that Springsteen and the band used to practice songs around the time The River was being cut in studio. Working out arrangements cuts down pricey hours at The Power Station where the album was recorded.
A significant amount of The River sessions audio that has surfaced unofficially comes from these Telegraph Hill sessions. Unfortunately the audio quality leaves much to be desired. It sounds as if a single boom recording mike was used and Springsteen's vocals are buried under the instruments on virtually all these recordings.
This band rehearsal of THE TIES THAT BIND can be found on The Unsurpassed Springsteen Volume 6 (Yellow Dog Records) [track 13] bootleg.
Some of the above info about the Telegraph Hill sessions is taken from Brucebase.
