I bought my U.S. CD pressing from an eBay seller based in Honk Hong. I ordered it from Honk Kong in the hopes that it would turn out to be a Honk Kong pressing (there is a Honk Kong pressing of Magic as far as I know). When I received it turned out to be a U.S. pressing, which is fine by me since I hadn't got the U.S. one yet.

However, I had a suspicion that it's a counterfeit. I don't have another copy of the U.S. pressing to compare, but I have a Canadian version (from a Canadian seller), which is the U.S. pressing with just a different (bilingual) sticker.

I noticed some differences:

1) While on the Canadian version the artwork is pure grayscale, it is a little brown shifted on the U.S. version. See scans.

2) The artwork on the U.S. version seems to be a little bit vertically stretched. Notice the difference in the dimensions of the car tire between the two versions.

3) The copyright text and FBI warning on the back cover is also different... as if it's bad printing.

4) There is some discrepancy in the "Columbia" text on the spine. See photo:

5) And last, something seems strange at the bottom of the front artwork on the US version... as if it's a bad Photoshop job. See here:

It seems to me that it's a counterfeit, but then why would someone counterfeit this? Or could it be a bad batch of CD's that someone in Asia bought for cheap and started selling them? What do you think? It would be helpful if someone would post high resolution scan of his US versions (bought from the US).

By the way, I'm writing a short (negative) review for my blog on the Japanese LP edition. Do you know in which country the "European" LP is pressed?

According to the Discogs page for the colored European issue, it was pressed at GZ-Media in Czech Republic.

So I would say that the Japanese issue was pressed at the same plant as teh EU colored issue, and the matrix numbers do conform with the standard used at the GZ Media plant the Czech Republic.

It seems that the US colored issue was pressed at different plant, probably in the U.S. First, the color is different (and look better), and second, the matrix numbers are completely different:

Both the US regular issue and the EU regular issue were pressed at MPO in France, just like 2014 remastered box set and the remastered albums that were released individually in 2015. Great info, thanks. For the reason I don't know,I was not able to find proper information as to the pressing plant.
The matrix numbers for one of my two Japanese edition copies are as follows (Another one has not been checked yet).

It seems pretty straightforward. "148489" is a kind of incremental serial number for each release. "E" means stereo, 12", 33⅓ RPM, "1"..."4" is the side number, and "A" or "B" have to do with galvanoplasty. Maybe that pressing plant has two chemical baths (where the stamper is submerged for the silver to be coated with nickel), A and B.

Today my friend finally received the CDs I ordered from Amazon India. I had ordered:
- Seeger Sessions
- Live in Dublin
- Magic
- Wrecking Ball
- High Hopes
- Chapter And verse

1) He sent me photos and they turned out to be Indian pressings
2) Instead of High Hope they sent another copy of Chapter And Verse… so now I have 2 copies of Chapter And verse.

Anyway, it was good to confirm that Chapter And Verse was also made in India.
