BABY I'M A STAR is a song originally released by Prince And The Revolution in 1984. See the original Prince And The Revolution version for more details.
The above lyrics are for the live 23 Feb 1985 performance of BABY I'M A STAR at The Forum in Inglewood, CA, during a Prince And The Revolution Purple Rain Tour concert. The song featured guest appearances by Bruce Springsteen on guitar and Madonna on tambourine. It clocked at over 18 minutes and a half and included snippets from BODYHEAT and PARTYUP. The parts in bold were sung by the crowd.
Bruce Springsteen and Prince, along with Michael Jackson, dominated the pop music scene in the summer of 1984. They sold records at multi-platinum levels and shared time at the top of the charts. DANCING IN THE DARK, Springsteen's biggest hit to date, peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and it kept that position for four weeks (June-July 1984). The single was kept out from reaching the number one position initially by Duran Duran's THE REFLEX, and then for three more weeks by Prince And The Revolution's WHEN DOVES CRY. Born In The U.S.A., Springsteen's most commercially successful album and one of the highest-selling records ever, peaked at number one on the Billboard 200 chart and it kept that position for four weeks (July 1984), only to be knocked off the fifth week by Prince And The Revolution's Purple Rain, which spent 24 consecutive weeks at #1.
The only time Bruce Springsteen and Prince shared the stage was during a 23 Feb 1985 Price concert at The Forum in Inglewood, CA, when Springsteen joined Prince onstage on BABY I'M A STAR. On 23 Apr 2016, Bruce Springsteen opened his show with PURPLE RAIN as a tribute to Prince who passed away two days earlier.
BABY I'M A STAR was performed off-tour on 23 Feb 1985 at The Forum in Inglewood, CA, during a guest appearance with Prince.
Some sources have reported that Bruce Springsteen and Madonna remained onstage for the last two songs of the show, AMERICA and PURPLE RAIN.
