Live 14 Jan 2014 version
[Jimmy Fallon spoken intro:] Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band everybody.
One, two, three, four
One, two, three, four
One night in a motel room
Eyes cast like steel
I drank the wine that they left on my table
I knew the morning was too far
I smoked my last cigarette
I stay only to defy
The night was dark and the land is cold
It's frozen right to the bone
And just like fire would, I burn
Just like fire would
Just like fire would, I burned up
Five hundred miles I've gone today
Tomorrow's five hundred more
Outside my window the world passes by
It's stranger than my dreams
Just like fire would, I burn
Just like fire would
Just like fire would, I burned up
I go to work and I earn my pay load (I earn my pay load)
My sweat falls to the ground (oh yeah)
I see you now but we may never meet again, child
The ice is hanging on the door
Ah come on!
One night in a motel room
Eyes cast like steel
I drank the wine that they left on my table
I knew the morning was too far
And just like fire would, I burn
Just like fire would (I burned up)
Just like fire would, I burned up
Just like fire would, I burn
Just like fire would (I burned up)
Just like fire would, I burned up
Come on!
The above lyrics are for the live 14 Jan 2014 performance of JUST LIKE FIRE WOULD on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon. The NBC show is filmed in Studio 6B in the GE Building at Rockefeller Center in New York City, NY. The song was played in its album style arrangement, with the E Street Band and Tom Morello. The song was not part of the TV broadcast; it was a web exclusive video available for streaming only on the show's official website.
For his only TV appearance to promote the High Hopes album, Bruce Springsteen appeared on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon on 14 Jan 2014, the album's official release date. He first performed GOVERNOR CHRISTIE TRAFFIC JAM with Jimmy Fallon as part of a comedy skit, and then, after a 15-minute interview with Fallon, he joined the extended E Street band (including Tom Morello and Patti Scialfa, but not Steven Van Zandt) and performed three songs from the new album: HIGH HOPES, HEAVEN'S WALL, and JUST LIKE FIRE WOULD.
