Live 08 Aug 1975 version
Catlong sighs holding Kitty's black tooth
She left to marry some top cat -- the cold truth
There hasn't been a tally since Sally left the alley
Since Kitty left with Big Pretty things have got pretty thin
Yes they have
It's tight on this fence since them young dudes are muscling in
Well, Jack Knife sighs 'cause baby's in a bundle
She goes running nightly, lightly through the jungle
Them tin cans are exploding out in the ninety-degree heat
Cat somehow lost his Kitty down on Bleecker Street
Well, it's a sad, sad story, but it's true
Cat just sits back, just so, he shrugs his shoulders and he sighs
He says, "Oh, what can I do?
Oh, oh, what can I do?"
Clarence!
[Clarence Clemons:] What can I do?
I don't know, I don't know
Whoa, what? Band!
[Clarence Clemons:] Kitty's back
[Clarence Clemons:] Kitty's back, kitty's back, kitty's back
Kitty's back
[Clarence Clemons:] Kitty's back
Kitty's back
Kitty's back
Bring it up!
Catlong lies back bent on a trash can
Flashing lights cut the night, dude in white says he's the man
You better learn to move fast when you're young or you're not long around
Cat somehow lost his Kitty down in the city pound
Get right, get tight, get down
Oh, you better get down, now
Bam!
[Spoken:] There I was, standing on the main street down here in Akron. Everybody was giving me these hard looks, you know? I was standing there looking around... Hey, Clarence! Clarence, I was wishing you was with me. I was standing there on the corner, and along comes this cat walking slow and cool. Walks right up to me, looks me in the face. Steven, I'm telling you, it was -- in my face, the dude was lookin'and he said -- you know what he said, Clarence? He said.
Here she comes
Here she comes, here she comes
Here she comes, here she comes
Here she comes, here she comes
Here she comes, here she comes
Here she comes, here she comes
Here she comes, here she comes
Here she comes, here she comes
Here she comes (here she comes)
Here she comes (here she comes)
Here she comes (here she comes)
Here she comes (here she comes)
Here she comes (here she comes)
Here she comes (here she comes)
Here she comes (here she comes)
Here she comes (here she comes)
Here she comes (here she comes)
Here she comes (here she comes)
Here she comes (here she comes)
Here she comes (here she comes)
Here she comes (here she comes)
Here she comes (here she comes)
Here she comes (here she comes)
Here she comes (here she comes)
Here she comes (here she comes)
Here she comes (here she comes)
Here she comes (here she comes)
Here she comes (here she comes, here she comes)
Whoa!
Kitty's back in town (here she comes, now)
Kitty's back (oh, oh, all right)
Kitty's back in town (here she comes, now)
Kitty's back in town (oh, oh, all right)
Kitty's back in town (here she comes, now)
Kitty's back in town (oh, oh, all right)
Kitty's back in town (here she comes, now)
Kitty's back (oh, oh, all right)
Cat knows his Kitty's been untrue
And that she left him for a city dude
She's so soft, she's so blue
When he looks into her eyes
He just sits back and sighs
Whoa, whoa, what can I do?
Oh, no, oh, boy, what can -- Clarence, I'm so worried sometimes
Oh, what can I do?
Oh, what can I do?
[Spoken:] You know, sometimes I get a little worried about the whole thing. If she comes around, I don't know I should take her back!
[Steven Van Zandt:] Hey, it's gonna be all right!
[Spoken:] I don't know if I should take her back!
[Clarence Clemons:] Don't take her back, man.
Oh, oh, what can I
[Spoken:] but I ain't gonna worry about it no more, right here tonight.
[Clarence Clemons:] Okay.
[Spoken:] I'm gonna act like I don't have any of that stuff to worry about.
[Clarence Clemons:] Don't worry.
Oh, oh, wha
[Spoken:] I don't know, I'm still a little worried about the whole thing, you know? Like I don't know if I can, I don't know if I should take her back, but I... I don't know. I, I think maybe if everybody, if everybody'd say.
Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, all right, ooh, all right
That'd make it feel a little better.
(Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, all right, ooh, all right)
All right, I don't feel too bad, I don't feel so bad anymore.
(Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, all right, ooh, all right)
Still a little worried, you know, you gotta help me out a little more.
(Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, all right, ooh, all right)
Help me out a little bit!
(Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, all right, ooh, all right) Ooh, ooh
Oh, that's much better!
(Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, all right, ooh, all right)
Yeah, that's it, man.
(Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, all right, ooh, all right)
Now, I still feel a little worried, though
(Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, all right, ooh, all right)
(Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, all right, ooh, all right)
Clarence Clemons, why don't you help me with it? Yeah!
(Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, all right, ooh, all right)
Do a little bit of that thing!
(Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, all right, ooh, all right)
Yeah, that's right, now
(Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, all right, ooh, all right)
(Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, all right, ooh, all right)
(Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, all right, ooh, all right)
Yeah, yeah, yeah
(Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, all right, ooh, all right)
(Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, all right, ooh, all right)
(Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, all right, ooh, all right)
Give me this back! I'm gonna speak to it!
[Spoken outro:] Clarence Clemons on the sax! The E Street Band!
The above lyrics are for the live 08 Aug 1975 performance of KITTY'S BACK at Akron Civic Theatre in Akron, OH, during the Born To Run Tour. The song was played in an extended, full-band version featuring a snippet of Van Morrison's MOONDANCE in the midsection. This particular version features a spoken part in the middle, a dialogue between Bruce and the band before the ending, and a call-and-response of the song's title between Bruce and Clarence over the first set of solos.
Thanks Jake (ol'catfishinthelake at BTX and Greasy Lake) for the lyrics help.
