Live 11 Dec 2002 version
Catlong sighs holding Kitty's black tooth
She left to marry some top cat, ain't it the cold truth
There hasn't been a tally since Sally left the alley
Since Kitty left with Big Pretty things have got pretty thin
It's tight on this fence since them young dudes are muscling in
Jack Knife cries 'cause baby's in a bundle
She goes running nightly, lightly through the jungle
Them tin cans are exploding out in the ninety-degree heat
Cat somehow lost his baby down on Bleecker Street
Sad, but it sure is true
Cat shrugged his shoulders, sit back and sighs
Ooh, ooh, what can I do?
Ooh, ooh, what can I do?
Ooh, ooh, what can I do?
Ooh, ooh, what can I do?
Catlong lies back bent on a trash can
Flashing lights cut the night, dude in white says he's the man
Well, you better learn to move fast when you're young or you're not long around
Cat somehow lost his Kitty down in the city pound
Get right, get tight, get down
Here she comes walking down that alley
She's been gone so long
Ah, come on, now!
Yeah, here she comes, (here she comes)
Here she comes, (here she comes)
Here she comes, (here she comes)
Here she comes, (here she comes)
Here she comes, (here she comes)
Here she comes, (here she comes)
Here she comes, (here she comes)
Hey!
Kitty's back in town (here she comes, now)
Kitty's back (oh, oh, all right)
Kitty's back in town (here she comes, now)
Kitty's back (oh, oh, all right)
Kitty's back in town (here she comes, now)
Kitty's back (oh, oh, all right)
Kitty's back in town (here she comes, now)
Kitty's back (oh, oh, all right)
Cat knows his Kitty's been untrue
That she left him for a city dude
But she's so soft, she's so blue
When he looks into her eyes
He just sits back and sighs
Oh, what can I do?
Whoa, oh, what can I do?
Whoa, what can I do?
Whoa, oh, what can I do?
Help me out, band!
(Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, all right, well, it's all right)
Come on, everybody!
(Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, all right, well, it's all right)
And one more time
(Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, all right, well, it's all right)
(Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, all right, well, it's all right)
C and the horns, now, come up!
(Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, all right, well, it's all right)
Yeah, everybody, now
(Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, all right, well, it's all right) Everybody now
Come on, C!
(Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, all right, well, it's all right)
(Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, all right, well, it's all right)
You got it, baby, come on!
(Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, all right, well, it's all right)
(Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, all right, well, it's all right)
Play that, Big Man!
Kitty's back!
The above lyrics are for the live 11 Dec 2002 performance of KITTY'S BACK at Rockefeller Center in New York City, NY, during a guest spot appearance on Late Night With Conan O'Brien. The song was played in a full-band arrangement.
With no Asbury Park Holiday shows planned that year, Bruce Springsteen made a guest appearance on Late Night With Conan O'Brien on 11 Dec 2002. The taping took place in Studio 6A in the GE Building of the Rockefeller Center. Backed by the E Street Band, and with some help from the show's house band the Max Weinberg 7, he delivered one of his best television performances. They kicked off with an eight minute version of KITTY'S BACK and after a commercial break they went right into MERRY CHRISTMAS BABY.
Thanks Jake (ol'catfishinthelake at BTX and Greasy Lake) for the lyrics help.
