Original Simms Twins version
Whoa
Soothe me, baby, soothe me
Soothe me with your kindness
For, you know, your powerful love is
Soothing to me
Soothe me, baby, soothe me
Soothe me with your kindness
For, you know, your powerful love is
Soothing to me
Oh, I used to have a lot of girls
Have them, big and small
Since I met that baby of mine
I don’t know no other girl at all
I just tell her to
Soothe me, baby, soothe me
Soothe me with your kindness
For, you know, your powerful love is
Soothing to me
Oh, how I used to ramble
(Yes, we did!)
How I used to roam
Since I found that sweet little thing
All I do is stay at home
And I tell her to
Soothe me, baby, soothe me
Soothe me with your kindness
For, you know, your powerful love is
Soothing to me
Soothe me, baby, soothe me
Soothe me with your kindness
For, you know, your powerful love is
Soothing to me
Soothing to me
Soothing to me
Soothing to me
Soothing...
SOOTHE ME is a song written by Sam Cooke and originally released by Simms Twins as a single in 1961. The above lyrics are for the original Simms Twins version of SOOTHE ME as released in 1961.
Bruce Springsteen occasionally performed SOOTHE ME live between 1975 and 1977. He also used a snippet of the song in A LOVE SO FINE during the Born To Run Tour, TENTH AVENUE FREEZE-OUT during The Reunion Tour, and MARY'S PLACE during The Rising Tour.
However, it is Sam & Dave's 1967 recording of the song (see the original Sam & Dave version), and not Simms Twins' version, that Springsteen was likely familiar with.
Thanks Jake (ol'catfishinthelake at BTX and Greasy Lake) for the lyrics help.
